Student internships

We welcome all 2nd year students interested in undergoing Student Internship. The information on this page will be updated on a regular basis.

Some information and requirements (e.g. contact, duration and completion of internships) vary depending on the field of study. When such a situation occurs, we provide them separately for the field of Computer Science and for the field of Computer Science and Econometrics, also taking into account the mode of study in the case of Computer Science.

Information common to all trainee students is provided only once.

Information about internships

Duration of Internship

Computer Science and Econometrics: 3 weeks

Computer Science: 4 weeks

The internship completion date

Internships are carried out during the second year of undergraduate and engineering studies.

Please plan the internship in such a way that we can complete it within the required deadlines
through the study schedule to complete the relevant semester, that is:

  • in the field of Computer Science and Econometrics (full-time and part-time studies) – internships must be completed before the settlement of the fourth semester of studies (not later than 10/09),

  • in the field of Computer Science (full-time studies) – completion of internships before the settlement of the 5th semester of studies (no later than 10.02),

  • in the field of Computer Science (part-time studies) – completion of internships before the end of the 7th semester of studies (no later than 10.02).

Other information on Student Internship

Dear student,
Please read the following information carefully.
In the following, the following terms will be used:
internship supervisor – a person in the workplace who supervises the intern,
internship coordinator – a person at the university who deals with the settlement of student internships,
student – a person who studies and practices;
employer – a person from the workplace where the student can do an internship, hosting an apprentice

Insurance

Each student participating in internships must be insured against accidents (the so-called accident insurance). The student takes out insurance on his own and at least for the duration of the internship.
The university offers assistance in purchasing an accident insurance policy for the entire academic year. Detailed information on insurance options are available at: https://www.nnw-sggw.pl/ .

Documents needed by the employer – agreement, placement referral or apprenticeship contract

The basic and often the only document confirming the employer’s acceptance of the student’s admission to the internship is the Agreement between the university and the employer (available on the second page of the Practitioner Diary), which should be signed and stamped by: the internship coordinator and the employer.

If the employer requires a referral for internships, the student must provide the following information to the internship coordinator: album number, year of study, field of study, employer name, internship date, contact details of the internship supervisor, confirmation of the conclusion of an accident insurance policy. On the referral, the student will have to confirm the fact of being insured.

If the employer requires a student internship contract, the student must provide the dean’s office with relevant information and any required documents (application).

The workplace where the student internship is to take place should be verified. It is about checking the information that a given workplace has agreed to accept an apprentice, has appointed a tutor, will sign the internship regulations and agreement, and will ensure the scope of work in line with the Student’s competences (internships as a hostess or bricklayer are not acceptable, despite possible competences).

Internship procedures

1. Employer selection and verification

The student may choose (only one employer):

  • Based on the list of employers, if any. For example, a catalog of employers is recommended on the website of the WULS-SGGW Career Office at: https://bk.sggw.pl/katalog-firm/ .

  • Independently. In this case, the student is obliged to contact the employer himself to make sure that he meets the requirements related to the student internship. You must also provide contact information to yourself and the internship supervisor, so that the employer can be verified by the internship coordinator.

  • By accepting the choice of the employer proposed by the internship coordinators. Then any verification of the employer is not necessary.

2. Acquisition of accident insurance

Information on compulsory accident insurance can be found in the Insurance section. The student insures himself / herself.

3. Collecting the Practice Diary from the internship coordinator

The student collects the Practice Diary with the Agreement signed and stamped by the coordinator from his internship coordinator. The collection dates will be given by the coordinators.

4. Receiving a referral for internships (if required by the employer)

If the employer requires such a document, the Student is obliged to provide relevant information to the internship coordinator by 1. June.
For the required information, see Documents Needed by an Employer.

PLEASE NOTE: IN JULY AND AUGUST, COORDINATORS DO NOT ISSUE DIRECTIONS FOR INTERNSHIPS.

5. Obtaining an internship contract (if required by the employer)

To receive an apprenticeship contract, you must do so by day 1. On June, submit to the dean’s office the relevant required documents, and above all the content of the contract obtained from the employer. The Dean’s Office will issue an appropriate agreement within ten days from the date of submitting the documents.

NOTE: IN JULY AND AUGUST, the Dean’s Office DOES NOT ISSUE AN INTERNSHIP AGREEMENTS.

6. An internship

  • signature and stamp of the employer under the Agreement;

  • information about employment: what position does the Student work in (in the absence of a precisely specified position – one sentence on the duties assigned for the duration of the internship), short information about the scope of the employer’s activity. However, if the Student is completing the internship, it should be at least equal to the required duration of the internship. The information may not contain sensitive data, e.g. the amount of remuneration, bonuses, etc., and the regulations and health and safety rules in force at the workplace;

  • the scope of duties certified by the employer, consistent with the competences of the Student;

  • an opinion certified by the employer, consistent with the learning outcomes contained in the syllabus.

6.3 In the case of running a business, you need a certificate of conducting such activity, scope of duties and an opinion consistent with the learning outcomes contained in the syllabus. Such an opinion may be issued by the company with which the Student cooperates as part of its activities.
